Integrated health program to improve maternal and child health in the Kinshasa metropolitan area, focused on reducing mortality and improving access to care. Planned interventions: - Upgrading of 20 peripheral health centers - Training of 500 health workers - Supply of essential medical equipment - Vaccination and nutrition programs - Obstetric emergency system

The Challenge

Kinshasa has high maternal and child mortality rates due to structural deficiencies in the health system, lack of qualified personnel and limited access to quality prenatal and neonatal care.

The Solution

Multi-level approach combining upgrading of existing facilities, widespread training of health personnel, creation of a referral network for obstetric emergencies and community-based preventive programs.

The Results

40% reduction in maternal mortality and 35% in infant mortality in intervention areas, increase in assisted births from 45% to 85% and creation of a replicable model for other urban areas of the DRC.
