Comoros Islands Energy Infrastructure

Project to strengthen and modernize the energy system of the Comoros Islands, with focus on the transition to renewable sources and rural electrification. Project components: - Distributed photovoltaic systems - Energy storage systems - Micro-grids for isolated communities - Distribution network upgrading - Training of local technicians
The Challenge
The Comoros depend almost entirely on imported fossil fuels for electricity production, with high costs, frequent blackouts and low electrification rate in rural areas, limiting economic development.
The Solution
Implementation of an energy mix based on solar photovoltaic with battery storage, complemented by micro-hydroelectric where possible, with particular attention to system resilience and training of local personnel for maintenance.
The Results
Increase in electrification rate to 90%, 60% reduction in fossil fuel dependence, lowering of energy tariffs and creation of a center of excellence for renewable energy in the Indian Ocean.
